The Lady Tigers soccer team has been battling tough Wyoming Valley Conference teams, but is still working on getting on the board. They were blanked in losses to Wyoming Seminary and Holy Redeemer, and battled to a scoreless tie against Hanover.
At Tunkhannock, the Tigers and Hanover Area remained scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods in Tuesday’s match, which ended in a 0-0 tie.
Tunkhannock’s offense kicked into overdrive in the second half, putting a flurry of shots on goal. Paige Adams led the way with seven shots on net, while teammate Jessica Cervanak put six on target.
The Lady Tigers did not give up and followed each shot rebound, looking to capitalize on any mistake Hanover goalie Emily Lewis made, which were few.
The goalkeepers were the stars of the show with Lewis recording a 17-save shutout, and keeping her team in the contest with impressive saves in the last 10 minutes of regulation.
Lexi Farber of Tunkhannock blocked all eight shots she faced.
“As a team, we’re really coming together and displaying many of the fundamentals we have been working hard with,” said head coach Nolan Robinson after the Hanover game.
A day later, the Lady Tigers faced Wyoming Seminary in Kingston and lost 2-0.
Cervanak led the way with two shots on goal, and goalie Farber had six saves.
Over the weekend, the Lady Tigers were shut out at Holy Redeemer, 8-0.
Robinson added, “As an overall young team, we continue to work on taking our emotions and putting it back on the field where it belongs. As long as the girls continue to grow, we are successful. As we continue to be successful, it will lead to wins.”
