The Warriors, including Kellen Wescott, are looking forward to districts.

Elk Lake hosted Montrose (1-1) on Thursday night in a Lackawanna League Division II matchup. The Warriors lost the contest, 48-6, behind six pins by the Meteors.

Noah Atkins registered the only win for the home team, a pin at 152 over Ramon Carrero in 3:54.

Warriors head coach Rob Gagliardi is trying to keep his squad motivated and focused, but his team has been hit hard by injuries.

“We are focusing on the postseason. We are looking at the District competition since it is hard to compete with such low numbers on our roster. Our ultimate goal is post season success,” said the coach.

To keep spirits up after running a winless record so far this season, Gagliardi partnered with swimming coach Marion Austin for a fun, laid-back practice over the holiday break.

“The teams worked together and tried each other’s practice routines. We split 45-minutes for a wrestling practice then another 45 for swimming. It was fun to see the kids work together. There was a lot of laughing,” he added.

The Warriors headed to South Williamsport on Saturday.

Atkins topped Carrero in a major decision, taking a second victory over the Montrose wrestler in less than a week.

Kellen Wescott and Erick Skinner were both pinned in the championship quarterfinals, ending Elk Lake’s chance at a title.

Elk Lake will host Blue Ridge on Wednesday, Dec. 9, with the Red Raiders coming off a win over Scranton Prep.
