With a handful of games remaining, the Warriors broke even this week, taking a big win over Montrose, and being shut out on homecoming night by Holy Cross.
Alex Bradish and the Elk Lake Warriors played spoilers on Wednesday night at Montrose, as they dominated the ball and took a 4-1 victory from the hosts on the Meteors on the hosting team’s senior night.
Bradish had two goals and an assist to lead Elk Lake, and led the team in shots on goal.
The Warriors maintained solid possession throughout the game, and despite some mistakes, were able to obtain the elusive rivalry win.
“It was a real lift for our guys, and it felt good for me too,” said Warriors head coach Craig Sprout, a Meteors alum. “I grew up playing and finding the love for soccer on that field. (The rivalry) is always a great thing to be part of no matter what side you are on- Elk Lake or Montrose.”
He added, “I have been on both sides of this, and it is a fun game on both sides.”
Sophomore Jake Gustin and senior Gage Spadine also netted Warriors goals in the game.
As the featured game on a cold and windy homecoming night at Elk Lake, the Warriors suffered a 3-0 defeat under the lights to Holy Cross on Friday in a Lackawanna League Division III match.
The team had a scheduled game against Old Firge on Saturday, but according to Sprout, the game was postponed without a makeup date announced.
The Warriors hit the road to face Gregory the Great today after school.
