Riley Jones jumps in front of the Crestwood receiver to make an interception of a pass thrown from Comets quarterback Rob Figmic.

On a night made for football in Memorial Stadium, the Tigers scored first and battled with the Crestwood Comets, but eventually lost the game by a 35-20 score.

The Tigers scored on their opening drive, when quarterback Jack Chilson found receiver Garrett Hopkins fast and often. Starting at midfield and driving downfield, Hopkins found the endzone on a 3-yard run at 7:11 of the first. Zach Ross split the goal posts to get the Tigers on the board.

The night seemed to get longer for the Tigers as each quarter went on.

“It was another tough one for us,” said Tunkhannock head coach Mike Marabell. “We need to work on everything-there were a lot of physical and mental mistakes that we need to eliminate. It’s time to start getting the younger kids into the game.”

Both teams offense lit up the board in the second quarter with Crestwood scoring back-to-back touchdowns followed by a Tigers score all within a span of two minutes.

Lineman Alec Seboe would keep the game in check with his powerful and timely tackles on defense, holding the score to a 14-13 Tunkhannock lead at the half.

The Tigers started the second half strong, with Jake Frisco logging an interception of Comets Chase Passman. After a punt, Matt Prebola was able to recover a fumble off of a handoff from quarterback Rob Figmic, Jr. to Ryan Miller. But the Tigers were unable to capitalize on the break.

In fact, the Comets would intercept Chilson, one of his four on the night, and run the ball up the field, eventually finding the end zone to put the Comets ahead in the game for good.

Chilson was able to get some points back for the orange and black, rushing 35-yards to bring the Tigers back to within one point, 21-20.

The next series penalized Crestwood on three separate penalties totaling 20 yards, but the Comets controlled the ball-and the tempo-for over eight minutes.

Kevin Frisbie found the end zone on a 5-yard run and Figmic’s kick was good.

Even with the band playing “Eye of the Tiger” and all of the homecoming festivities in full swing, the Tigers couldn’t muster any comebacks, and surrendered another touchdown with 58 seconds remaining in the game.

Figmic found one of his favorite targets in Anthony Caporuscio-who ended the game with 86 total yards.

Chilson struggles to connect with any receivers in the fourth, going 3-for-11 on pass attempts and being sacked.

As the Comets took a knee to end the game, the Tiger’s record fell to 2-5, and the Comets improved to 2-5. The win ended Crestwood’s five game slide.

The Tigers hit the road this Friday against Wallenpaupack, and the Comets head to Berwick to battle the Bulldogs.
