Because of predicted bad weather, tennis chairman Mike Ognosky moved the start of the District II Tennis Boys Singles Championships tournament to Wednesday.
Tunkhannock sent Alex Keiser and Logan Helsel to the postseason.
Helsel had a play in round, which he lost to Valley View’s Kevin Duffy, 7-6 (5), 6-0.
Keiser, the 20 seed, won his first round against the 19 seed, Max Burke of Dunmore. Keiser dropped the first set, 2-6, but came back to win with 6-4 and 6-2 victories.
In the second round, Keiser lost to the number three seed, Holy Cross’ Logan Gregory, 6-2 and 6-0.
Both Helsel and Keiser have been eliminated from postseason play, ending the Tigers tennis season.
Head Coach Justin Muthler was proud of his Tigers, saying, “Alex and Logan gave 100 percent effort all season and it showed during districts. Logan lost a hard fought match while Alex won a first round match against a tough opponent.”
“The season ended with us winning three matches,” said Muthler. “We would have liked to win a couple more, but we were competitive in most of our matches.”
He continued, “The boys grew together and had a great time while learning a sport they can play for the rest of their lives. These seniors were a great bunch of boys who loved to have fun while learning tennis.”
In the off-season, Muthler plans to continue growing the program and develop interest throughout the district.
