Pitcher CJ Wright went the distance on Sunday, scattering three hits and allowing only one free pass.

Tunkhannock used a pair of four-run innings, with four runs in the sixth inning being the difference in a win over host Dallas on Wednesday.

Bill Dziak had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs for Tunkhannock. Dylan Mislevy added two hits and an RBI, and also picked up the win in relief. Jake Stephens had a double.

After being rained out on Friday, the Tigers faced Nanticoke on Saturday, taking the loss at home, 6-3.

Mislevy had a two-run home run for Tunkhannock, while Tyler Faux had two hits and scored once.

Stephens got the loss on the mound, surrendering four earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. Mislevy, Faux, and Nick Reposa also threw for the Tigers on Saturday.

On Sunday, April 14, Tunkhannock took on Riverside at Keystone College as part of the Bill Howerton VsCancer event.

The Tigers were led by Reposa, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the 6-0 win.

Shane Sherwood made the most of his at bat, providing a pinch hit single to plate a run.

On the mound, CJ Wright tossed a complete game, and scattered three hits.

The Bill Howerton VsCancer event is in its seventh year, and one of Howerton’s former baseball homes, the University of Scranton, is stepping up its involvement. Other Colleges, such as Keystone, and various high school venues also hosted games for the event.

This year sees the event partner solely with VsCancer for the first time, with funds going to the Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville. Donations will be collected online and through T-shirt sales and sponsorships, and the Bill Howerton Foundation will also award scholarships to selected high schoolers.

“It started off in memory of Bill and has grown into something a heckuva lot bigger than baseball,” Keystone baseball coach Jamie Shevchik said. “Bill Howerton’s a big part of it, but starting with Bill Howerton, where this thing has evolved over the past couple years, it’s pretty cool to be a part of it.”

Tunkhannock battled Pittston yesterday, after this paper published, and was not scheduled to play again until after the Easter Holiday.
