Ryan Kugler battles the Royals defense, and sticks, in the Tigers 15-4 win on Friday.

Tigers lacrosse played three games in the final stretch of the season, losing two to Lake-Lehman and picking up a win on senior night against Holy Redeemer.

The Black Knights boys lacrosse team won on their home field, 12-7, over Tunkhannock on Wednesday in the first game of a home-and-home series.

Jaxson Montross and Izaiah Simon each scored twice for Tunkhannock.

Sergey Montross, Matt Prebola, and Steve Bognatz each added a tally for the Tigers.

A day later, the Tigers dropped a one goal game at home, 6-5 to the same team.

Ryan Kugler and Joe Casey each found the net twice, and Izaiah Simon added a goal.

Looking to end the season on a positive note, the Tigers topped out over the Royals on senior night, 15-4.

Steve Bognatz opened the scoring 10 seconds into the game, and shouted to the sidelines, “Can I stay in a little longer?”

The senior, who was battling an injury, was scheduled to come out of the game at the first play stoppage.

All nine of the seniors started the game and played the first half with the juniors, according to head coach Eric Janiszewski.

The loose atmosphere on the sidelines and on the field translated well for the Tigers.

“They were loose knowing the opponent was not a very good team. So I told them have fun and enjoy,” said the coach.

He added, “It was a rough year. We won some, but lost to teams we could beat. We just need to get to work on fundamentals and keep using our sticks. Hopefully guys play summer and fall ball to help.”

The opposing team statistics were unavailable at press time.

Tunkhannock finished tenth in the Wyoming Valley Conference with a 3-9 record. They placed ninth in the Class 2A power rankings, one position shy of a playoff spot.
