On Sunday, Feb.17, in the Tunkhannock Area High School gym, the Area 12 PJW Wrestling Championships and State qualifier tournament took place.
The state competition will be held March 16 and 17 at the Petersen Event Center at the University of Pittsburgh.
Three Tunkhannock wrestlers made it to the podium and two advanced to the state wrestling tournament,
while one of the wrestlers qualified as a state tournament alternate.
Max Parry won the U12 125-pound weight class championship and qualified for the state tournament. Jake
Faux earned second place in
the U8 50 pound weight class and qualified for the state tournament.
Blayne Roosa earned third place in the U8 60 pound weight class, earning a spot as a state tournament alternate.
Lackawanna Trail wrestlers also competed in the PJWs at Tunkhannock.
Brayden Jones (80) finished first, Kaylix Douglas (120) took second place
and Demitrius Douglas (100) also placed second.
All three Lions punched their tickets to states.
John Tyler will represent Elk Lake at PJW states,
after placing first in a
qualifier on Feb. 9.
