The 32nd annual February Freeze 5K race was held Saturday at the Tunkhannock Area Intermediate Center (formerly Roslund Elementary School) on an overcast day in Tunkhannock, with John Novack and Marina Martino capturing wins.

The race was not held in 2019 because parts of the course had been dug up while Linde Corp was installing natural gas pipeline for UGI.

The race had been won in 2018 by 32-year-old Tim Nowakowski of Factoryville in 18:54.

Some 29 runners participated in the 2020 race, which was won by the 27-year-old Novack, former standout runner for Tunkhannock Area High School and Marywood University, in 17:29.

Martino, 28, came in second place overall and was the first place female, breaking the women’s 25-29 record pace with a time of 18:11.

Irene Cobb broke the 55-59 female record with a time of 23:40.

Vincent O’Malley at 20:51 was just four seconds off Reece Ayers’ 12 and under pace in 2005.

In the 13-19 male category, Bryce Phillips was first at 18:50.
