Heads-up play from Lackawanna Trail’s Madelyn Toth is here against Western Wayne.

On Saturday, eight varsity and seven junior varsity teams from the Wyoming Valley Conference as well as the Lackawanna League, journeyed to Tunkhannock to play in the Tunkhannock Invitational volleyball tournament.

The Lady Tigers’ teams took second place in each tournament, falling short of Towanda in the varsity matches, 25-23 and 27-25 in the high school gym.

The junior varsity also lost to the Black Knights in the Intermediate Center gym.

Tunkhannock Area first-year head coach Karen Pasarelli commented, “We had some great teamwork on display from our seven seniors and two underclassman to achieve second place in the varsity tournament.”

The other schools participating in the tournament were Blue Ridge, Towanda, Wyoming Area, Western Wayne, Lackawanna Trail (varsity only), Coughlin, and Lake-Lehman.

Trail was eliminated from the tournament before the playoff portion of the competition.

To get to the finals Tunkhannock had to beat Lake-Lehman and Towanda had to best Wyoming Area in the semifinals. There was no consolation game.

“It was a great day of competition, a long day, with sportsmanship on display all day long,” said

Pasarelli.
