Tiger softball picked up two wins this week, dominating Dallas and topping Nanticoke.

Tunkhannock simply toyed with Dallas through the four innings of play on Tuesday night (Apr. 9), coming away with the dominant 15-0 win in the shortened game.

At home, the Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak with a near perfect, incredible game at the plate, where they hit seven doubles, two triples and two home runs.

Tunkhannock had 20 hits in their 28 at bats.

Cleanup hitter Jena Simmons, who was behind the plate in the rout, was 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs. Leadoff hitter Faith Jones also hit her first career home run, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Hope Jones and Erin Dunn each tallied three hits, while Kendra Schultz was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Schultz pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in four innings.

The Lady Tigers’ spirits were light, and there was constant cheering coming from the dugout.

“We’re just trying a couple of defensive changes to see how it works out,” said Tigers head coach Bob Hegedty.

As for the pitching, Schultz has been shouldering the entirety of the innings in the circle, but according to Hegedty, “We got Emily (Schultz) some work in New Jersey and she did very well; she’s a pretty good freshman. Hope (Jones) has been throwing and will be back on the mound soon.”

Tunkhannock softball is a shining example of how the new PIAA D2 power ranking system is working to perfection. After the Dallas game, the Tigers were 3-4. Seven teams in the 4A classification had the same record, or better. One team was 5-1 and another was 6-1. But thanks to the “total winning percentage” statistic, the Lady Tigers were in first place.

Thursday, Tunkhannock headed to Nanticoke Area and evened itself to a .500 winning percentage on the season, improving to 4-4 with a 6-2 win.

Hope Jones and Hailey Farr led the Tigers, recording two hits apiece. Faith Jones and Simmons each had a hit, a run and an RBI, while Kendra Schultz was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts.

The Lady Tigers hosted Wyoming Area yesterday and head to Crestwood on Thursday.
