Last year, the junior Tigers played on the field after the Jets/ Steelers game at MetLife Stadium.

With COVID-19 restrictions being relaxed and lifted, area organizations are preparing to get back on the fields.

The Tunkhannock and Lackawanna Trail junior football and cheer programs are gearing up for the upcoming fall season.

For the junior Tigers, there will be a different process from past years.

This year’s registration fee will be $80 per child, increasing as a result of the probable constraints on any fundraising this season. Registration payment can be cash, check or a credit/debit card, which has a three percent processing fee for each transaction.

There will be an online initial registration via email. Organizers ask that each parent email the player or cheerleader info to the appropriate email: football emails go to Tunkjrtigersfootball1@gmail.com and cheer to Tunkjrtigerscheer@gmail.com

Please ensure that only football players go to the football email as well as cheer only to the cheer email. Multiple family members in the same sport are accepted in one email, but please use separate emails to distinguish football or cheerleaders.

Please include your athlete’s name, parent(s) name and phone numbers, parent(s) email address, and player’s date of birth, age, and grade in September. Also please indicate if the child has played or cheered previously.

After the emails are received, the organization will reply to each email with the documents applicable to your participant. These need to be printed out and filled out. Enclosed will be the 2020 medical clearance form for the junior Tigers.

The board is looking at whether extra time for the medical forms will be allowed, due to the extraordinary times. They understand families don’t have the time or means to print out all these documents and make packets up so your help is greatly appreciated.

Due to the registration window being minimized, there will be a drive through drop off of documents and payments today, Wednesday, June 24, at Lazybrook Park by the Red Pavilion from 5 to 8 p.m.

Finan Detail will be on hand to size and order jerseys for new players or players that need to size up. Jersey purchase is separate from junior Tigers registration fees, as the jersey funds go directly to Finan Detail.

Pants will be available to order from Finan’s as well. The board is also looking into ways of obtaining old jerseys that might have small issues to have them taken care of.

Equipment and cheer uniform handout will be Saturday, July 18. This is only a one day deal, again due to time constraints. The time and place are still to be determined.

The scheduled first day of practice is for Monday, July 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lazybrook.

More info will be available shortly and the league extends its appreciation to all for helping make this as quick and smooth as possible.

The Lackawanna Trail junior Lions are ready to tackle the gridiron too.

On Saturday, June 27, the Lackawanna Trail junior Lions football and cheer programs will hold in person registration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Christy Mathewson Park Pavilion (across the footbridge from the elementary school) in Factoryville.

Football jersey ordering and fitting will be done at this time, by Finan Detail. A $45 payment, by check or credit card, is required at time of order.

If you are interested in being a football or cheer coach, please contact Ryan Wilbur (football) 570-851-9533 and Mitchell McElwee (cheer) 570-687-5052 or email TrailJuniorLions@gmail.com

Prospective coaches are required to have a criminal background check from 2019 or 2020, child abuse clearance from 2019 or 2020, an FBI Clearance if you have not lived in Pennsylvania for 10 years, and specific football or cheer training courses that are completed online (payment reimbursed by organization after courses are completed).

The junior Lions are also hosting their Sixth Annual Golf Tournament on July 12 at Shadowbrook Inn and Resort.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with an 11 a.m. tee time.

The fees associated with the tournament ($85 per player/ $340 per team of four) includes 18 holes of golf, hot dog, beer and soda on turn, steak dinner and draft beer, great raffle prizes, and a 50/50 raffle.

For more information or registration or the tournament, message the Lackawanna Trail junior Lions football and cheer Facebook page.
