Elk Lake’s girls golf team had a good day at the PIAA team golf championship at Heritage Hills Resort in York as they finished third in Class 2A at 49-over par for their three-player score. North East won the title at 25 over and Greensburg Central Catholic was second at 31 over.

Junior Chloe Sipe fired her best round in three years of state tournament play, posting a 6-over 78. Senior Tagean Mills shot 90, her best showing, and junior Reece Warriner added 97, carving 23 shots off her score from a year ago. Senior Payton LaRue shot 98.

Abington Heights boys finished fifth of the six teams to make the Class 3A state tournament at 37 over. The all-underclassmen team was led by James Flickinger with 77, and Quinn Hamilton shot 80, Luke Morgan had 81, Bryce Florey shot 83 and Michael Marion had 84.

Erie Cathedral Prep (+13) won by five over Unionville and Bethlehem Liberty.

With three straight state runner-up finishes, the Scranton Prep boys team learned patience, and that quality was rewarded Monday as they reached the summit, claiming the PIAA Class 2A team golf championship.

Scranton Prep’s girls combined for an 82-over par total and were last of the five qualifiers in Class 3A girls.

Gianna Cafarelle (91) led the Classics, followed by Caroline Stampien (103), Madyson Babyak (104) and Miranda Karoscik (105).

Unionville won with a +16 score, six ahead of Peters Township.
