At the boys District 2 Cross Country Championships at the Wyoming County Fairgounds, the Elk Lake Warriors finished third overall as a team.

Battling a gusty, frigid wind, Holy Cross’ Kevin Jumper covered the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 53.0 seconds. That was 8.7 seconds ahead of Riverside freshman Daniel Danilovitz.

With Jumper leading the way, Holy Cross repeated as team champion. The Crusaders placed all seven runners in the top 20 to total 45 points. Montrose was second with 64 points and Elk Lake third with 87 points.

Also, Lackawanna League runners claimed 10 of the 15 individual state berths up for grabs. The team champion and five individuals in all three classes qualified for the PIAA Championships in Hershey on Saturday.

Lackawanna Trail’s Brayden Clarke was the highest finisher in our coverage area, earning a trip to states with his sixth place finish in 17:48.6.

Elk Lake was bolstered by three top 10 finishes, including state qualifier Justice Johnson in 7th (17:56.7). Teammates Jeremy Quinnan (9/18:07.8) and Dylan Way (10/18:07.8) weren’t too far behind.

Nathan Myers capped his senior season at Tunkhannock with a 26th place finish, in 18:27.80.
