Lackawanna Trail grad Justin Clarke and Charity Walker were top male and female finishers out of 90 participants in the Christy Mathewson Big 6K Run/Walk in Factoryville Saturday morning.

Clarke, who set the course record of 19:10 in 2013 while a junior at Keystone College, finished the race in 19:52.

It was his first local race since spending the summer in Oregon as part of a seasonal position working with migratory birds.

Frank Spear finished in second in 21:21 and Trail grad Isaac Barbolish took third for the second consecutive year in 21:51.

Walker finished the race in eighth overall in 23:40, which was 2 minutes and 20 seconds faster then second place female finisher, Irene Cobb, who took first place in the senior category.

Ashleigh Clarke, a junior cross country runner at Trail and Justin’s sister, finished as the third female finisher in 26:31.

A ‘1 Mile Fun Run’ was also held before the 6K race for children ages 12 and under.

The race was part of Christy Mathewson Days, held every year to honor Factoryville native and Baseball Hall of Famer, Christy Mathewson.

The event was pushed back from early August to late September, but the race fielded 78 fewer runners than last year’s.
