The Christy Mathewson Little League will host the 2018 minor league softball state tournament.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17 with game one of the tournament following immediately after.

Using the Benton fields, as they did last year to host the boys tournament, the District 17 members are excited to showcase the local playing surface.

The organization is honored to have been chosen by Little League Inc. and District 17 to host its first ever girls state championship tournament.

Tournament Administrator Phil Evans, who is also the president of the CM little league, has been putting in the hours to make sure the event goes off without a hitch.

The teams hosted by CM will all be sectionals winners in sections one through eight. As of publication of this paper, the sectional winners had not been crowned for identification.

Each team will have a thirty minute time slot to allow the team credentials to be checked when they arrive, and there will be a mandatory team staff meeting after all teams have checked in. The purpose of this meeting is to go over ground and tournament rules, and to make sure all are clear on tournament decorum. Visitor and home will be determined by the toss of a coin.

The game schedule could change based upon participation, weather, and field conditions. If necessary the tournament committee may drop the second, third, and fourth seeds.

Games are scheduled to be played every day from Tuesday, July 17 through Sunday, July 22, or Monday July 23 if needed.

Tuesday and Wednesday games in the double elimination tournament begin at noon and run every two and a half hours after that. Thursday has three games at 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 8 p.m.

As the tournament winds down, and narrows the pool of teams, one game a night will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 6 p.m. If a game is needed on Monday, that will be at 12 noon.

Each participating team was furnished with a booklet of information highlighting the best our area has to offer in attractions, lodging, and eateries.
