The Baseball U of PA summer collegiate league is wrapping up the end of its season and preparing for the playoffs, which begin August 8, after an All Star Game scheduled for August 5.

At Covington Twp. on Saturday, Vegas starter Cole Stetzar (Saint Joseph’s/West Scranton) struck out 12 and allowed two unearned runs over 5⅔ innings to pick up the win in the first game, then Jerome Repetz (East Stroudsburg/Hazleton Area) hit a three-run homer in the second to help White earn the split with Vegas, 6-4 and 6-3.

Stetzar allowed five hits and lowered his ERA to 1.35 in 20 innings. He’s piled up 31 strikeouts against 10 walks. Saint Joseph’s teammate Brendan Hueth (Saint Rose) launched a two-run homer in the third inning and Colin Pasone (Pitt.-Johnstown/Meyers), Brandon Lohner (Cabrini/St. John Neumann) and Devin Reed (Keystone/Hazleton Area) drove in runs for Vegas (6-9).

Repetz’s first-inning blast got White (2-12) off to a quick start in the second game. Jake Packer (East Stroudsburg/Wyoming Valley West) drove in two runs and starting pitcher Rob Hensey struck out nine and allowed two runs over six innings.

JD Barrett (Cabrini/Dallas) clubbed his fourth homer of the summer and drove in two runs for Vegas and Tim Cavanaugh (Saint Joseph’s/Holy Redeemer) and Matt Hayes (Fairfield/Lakeland) doubled.

Orange 7, Gray 4

Gray 2, Orange 1

At Hughestown, Kevin Johnson (Scranton/Hunterdon) singled in the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, then stole second and forced an errant throw to allow TJ Pleban (Scranton/Hazleton Area) to score the go-ahead run in the second game as the all-NCAA-Division-III Gray Team earned a split against the first-place Orange Team.

Orange (12-3) coach Mike Bartoletti, normally the head coach of the University of Scranton baseball team, saw his Royals do a number on his summer league squad. Johnson was 2 for 2 with a walk and his brother Daniel (Scranton/Immaculata) struck out two and walked three over two scoreless innings of relief for Gray (6-8). Starting pitcher Hunter Ralston (Scranton/Pittston Area) allowed one run on five hits over five innings, lowering his summer ERA to 1.17 in 15⅓ innings.

Dominic Verrastro (Pittsburgh/Lakeland) pitched all six innings for Orange, allowing two runs — one earned, the first off the righty in 21⅔ innings — on seven hits, with five strikeouts and four walks. Matthew Clarke (UMBC/Hanover) singled and drove in Orange’s run.

Six Orange players drove in runs in the first game, including Adam Retzbach (Lehigh/Lakeland) and Gabe Stirr (Lock Haven/Pocono Mountain East), who both doubled. Dominick Bayo (Wilkes/Wyoming Valley West) tripled. Nick Carlini (Keystone/Abington Heights) went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI for Gray.
