LTFB_Ray_Melnikoff

On Sunday night, Lackawanna Trail senior Ray Melnikoff ran for 88 yards and a touchdown as the Lions defeated Riverside, 49-27, in a nonconference game.

In recognition of his achievement, Melnikoff has been named the Wyoming County Press Examiner Athlete of the Week.

What other sports do you play? Baseball

Three reasons why you compete: I compete because of the adrenaline rush, I love the competitiveness of it, and enjoy the physicality of the game.

What celebrity would you like to meet at Dunkin for a cup of coffee? Adam Sandler

Who inspires you to be better? Coach Jervis because he wants us all to succeed, he really cares about us- like each one of us are his own sons.

Favorite school subject: History

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Somewhere secluded, probably in Tennessee.

What is your biggest fear? Spiders

Who makes you laugh the most? My friend Richard

Superstitions or Rituals: I wear the same headband every game, and have handshakes with some of my teammates.

What song would you sing at karaoke? “Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen

When did you start playing competitively? In first grade with the junior Lions

Favorite field to compete on and why? Our home field because it is the nicest grass field in the area. Our maintenance team does an amazing job keeping the field clean and playable.

What is your favorite football memory? Going to Hershey in my sophomore year, actually that entire season was incredible.

What did you want to be when you were younger? An astronaut

What is your dream job now? A CEO of a large company

What is the coolest place you have traveled to? Santorini, Greece

Who are your closest teammates? Miles Edwards, Owen Lisk, and Kody Cresswell

How would you describe Coach Jervis in one word? Inspirational

How would he describe you? Physical

What skill would you like to master? To be able to do a backflip.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? Travel outside of the country.

Random fun fact: I am doing this interview on my break at work.

Post-graduation plans: I plan to go to college for business administration and hope to be able to play football.
