Elk Lake runner Krista Jones has crossed the finish line first in each of the Lady Warriors contests this season.

In recognition of her achievement, Jones has been named the Wyoming County Press Examiner Athlete of the Week.

Three reasons why you compete: I compete because it is good physical activity, I like running, and I like the feeling of satisfaction after a tough race.

Who inspires you to be better? My coaches because they always make sure to give me good advice to do better and they push me to do my best.

What song would you sing at karaoke? “California Girls” by Katy Perry

When did you start running competitively? In seventh grade

Favorite course to compete on and why? The state course in Hershey because you have to really have had an accomplishing season to make it there, and it goes faster, you don’t have to run the loop twice. It’s very exciting.

What is your favorite running memory? Making it to states last year with Sadie (Bosscher).

What did you want to be when you were younger? A doctor

What is your dream job now? I want to do something in the health field.

What is the coolest place you have traveled to? Delmar Beach, NJ

Who are your closest teammates? Actually all of them. I practice with the boys teams, and have two really great teammates on the girls team.

How would you describe Coach Squier in one word? Encouraging

How would he describe you? Dedicated

What sports quote or motto do you try to live by? “Just do the best you can, that’s all you can do.”

What skill would you like to master? Bringing everything I need home from school at the end of the day.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives? Run a 5K

Random fun fact: This summer, I encountered three bears while on my runs.

Post-graduation plans: College, definitely; running most likely.
