Tunkhannock Area senior wrestler David Evans won the 132 bracket at the Wyoming Valley Conference tournament on Saturday with three pins. It was Evans’ second consecutive weekend bringing home gold, as he topped at the Tunkhannock Holiday tournament with all pins as well. In recognition of his achievement, Evans has been named the Wyoming County Press Examiner Athlete of the Week.

Offseason Clubs: I wrestle with ECWC in Scranton. I also compete in Freestyle and Grecco.
Three reasons why you compete: To stay in shape, I love the bond with my teammates, and I enjoy the fact that it is a one-on-one sport, you can’t blame anyone else out there for the results.

Who inspires you to be better? My parents because they push me, but also pick me up whenever I doubt myself.

When did you start wrestling competitively? In sixth or seventh grade
Favorite mat to compete on and why? Our home mat because I know everyone there and I love to wrestle in front of our hometown crowd.
What is your favorite wrestling memory? All the road trips to Altoona with Gavin (D’Amato) and Ethan (Munley) were such fun times.
What did you want to be when you were younger? A UFC fighter
What is your dream job now? MMA or UFC fighter
