A 26-year-old bus driver for the Wyalusing Area School District was arrested for endangering the welfare of children following a school bus accident in Windham Township on Dec. 13.

State police said that around 4:30 p.m., Brandon Harvey of Sugar Run was driving a 2015 International Harvester bus on SR 3001 near its intersection with Overshot Road when it travelled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Trooper Jordan Chiochio of the Tunkhannock barracks investigated and said there were 13 children on the bus (a 4- and 6-year-old from Sugar Run; four children ranging in ages from 9 to 15 from Mehoopany; and seven children ranging in ages from 6 to 14 from Laceyville).

Tpr. Chiochio noted in a police report that three children suffered minor injuries and were evaluated on the scene by EMS.

He added that the operator “displayed obvious signs of impairment” and “was taken into custody for DUI and endangering the welfare of a child.”

The report said that Harvey was transported to Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock for a legal blood draw.
