STAFF PHOTO/ALICE STUFFLE New traffic lights were installed Feb. 11, but they won’t become operational for a few more weeks.

D&C Fuel Sales has been making progress with a new gas station on Route 6 in Tunkhannock.

“We’re getting close. There’s a lot of red tape,” said D&C Fuel President Craig Keller.

Located just east of Shadowbrook Resort, it will offer similar amenities to D&C’s Citgo station on Route 6 near The Fireplace Restaurant in Tunkhannock.

Besides self-serve gas pumps, a convenience store with a built-in deli will serve cold and hot foods such as hoagies, fries and soups.

The station will also carry non-ethanol gasoline, Keller said.

D&C purchased the property at the end of 2017 and started engineering work the following January.

As a result of the project, new traffic lights were installed Feb. 11 at the intersection of Route 6 and Billings Mill Road.

Next, the company needs to have the road lines repainted to fit the new traffic pattern, but Keller said this step has been held up because of the wet weather.

The new traffic lights will not be turned on until this step is completed, he

said. Before becoming operational, they will get put on flash mode for at least three days to warn motorists of the changes.

D&C also plans to hire 20-30 employees for the new store, including cashiers, cooks and shift managers throughout three shifts. If Keller could find enough help, he anticipates the store being open 24 hours.
