A 46-year-old Monroe Township man died in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon.
State police say that around 5:10 p.m., Rodney A. Smith, driving a 1997 Honda VF, was travelling eastbound on Star Hill Road about 450 feet east of its intersection with SR 2002 (Buckwheat Hollow Road), when he attempted to pass another east bound vehicle.
He then pulled into the path of an oncoming 2009 Jeep Liberty, driven by Michael J. Derhammer, 50, of Dallas.
According to police, Smith was transported via Kunkle Fire Company ambulance with traumatic injuries sustained in the crash.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Derhammer is suspected of minor injury, and a passenger in his vehicle, Sandra L. Frisco, 50, of Falls, was not injured. Both were wearing their seat belt, and both refused transport via Kunkle ambulance.
Trooper Jaime J. Lopez of the Tunkhannock barracks investigated.
A celebration of Smith’s life will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Smith’s home, 11 Myers Lane, Monroe Township.
Arrangements are from Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., Pikes Creek.
