THOMAS CRAWFORD

A 36-year-old Tunkhannock man could face nine years in prison and $20,000 in fines after pleading guilty last Friday to unlawful restraint and simple assault.

Thomas Aaron Crawford of Eastwood Road appeared before President Judge Russell Shurtleff in the Wyoming County Court of Common Pleas.

According to court records, a female victim told police that on Aug. 8, Crawford accused her of “things I would never dream of doing” and at one point had been choking her to the point she could not breathe.

She told police, “I screamed for him to stop, and he did not. I went through with what he wanted out of fear.”

Tunkhannock Township police said that in the course of the investigation, they discovered that Crawford had multiple warrants out of Odessa, Texas, for trafficking persons under 18 and sexual assault of a child.

Judge Shurtleff explained to Crawford that his was an Act 79 (domestic violence) case and if he owned any weapons, he could no longer possess them.

Crawford said he did not nor did he have plans to apply for a concealed carry permit, which his guilty plea would not allow.

He will be sentenced in January.
