SHANE MACNAMEE

A 33-year-old Montrose man, who was charged for helping a woman escape from her Wyoming County probation officer’s custody in the spring of 2017, could face as much as seven years in prison.

Shane P. Macnamee pleaded no contest Friday morning to a lone felony count of escape.

According to court records, his friend Chelsea Robinson, also of Montrose, was being escorted May 5, 2017, to the county jail after it was determined she violated a condition of her probation.

She was en route from the Courthouse in Tunkhannock to the jail about a block and a half away when she left the sidewalk and allegedly entered into a silver gray 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo driven by Macnamee.

They left the area, and New York State Police arrested Macnamee eight days later after a traffic stop in Union, N.Y., on May 13, and Robinson, was picked up the next day in Rome by U.S. Marshals.

Robinson is presently serving a 22-60 months sentence in state prison.

Macnamee was arraigned in Tunkhannock on March 27, and has been in the jail since because he could not post the $100,000 bail.

President Judge Russell Shurleff asked Macnamee if by entering a nolo contendre plea, “You are not objecting to or denying the elements of this offense?”

“That’s right,” Macnamee responded.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
