The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Thursday afternoon that what was initially considered a small outbreak of positive cases of COVID-19 at The Gardens long-term care facility in Tunkhannock has now reached more than 20 residents.
DOH Deputy Secretary Maggi Mumma said at 2:53 p.m. that The Gardens was reporting 23 resident cases. An earlier report of seven long-term care staff has been redacted, Mumma said, because it includes traveling nurses and contractors.
Wyoming County, at large, is reporting 141 total positive cases, Mumma said, a gain of 11 cases over the previous 24 hours.
That is more than double the 70 that had been reported Sept. 10, suggesting the number of positive cases in the county has doubled in the past seven weeks.
Some 3,427 cases have come back negative in Wyoming County.
