A 36-year-old Tunkhannock man is in jail after police say he raped a woman last Thursday.
Thomas Aaron Crawford of Eastwood Road was arrested last Friday morning and arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Carl Smith.
He faces multiple felony charges of rape by forcible compulsion, harassment, and aggravated indecent sexual assault.
According to court records, the victim told police that Crawford accused her of “things I would never dream of doing” and at one point had been choking her to the point she could not breathe.
She told police, “I screamed for him to stop, and he did not. I went through with what he wanted out of fear.”
Tunkhannock Township Patrolman Patrick Butkiewicz filed the charges.
On Tuesday, Police Chief Edward Morristell said that in the course of the rape investigation, they discovered that Crawford had multiple warrants out of the Odessa, Texas, for trafficking persons under 18 and sexual assault of a child.
Judge Smith set bail at $250,000, and unable to post it, he was remanded to the Wyoming County Correctional Facility.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge David Plummer in Tunkhannock on Aug. 20.
