STAFF PHOTO/C.J. MARSHALL State and Tunkhannnock Township police responded to a Thursday afternoon single car crash that claimed a two-year-old girl.

The Montour County coroner, has ruled that a two-year-old involved in a single car Tunkhannock Township accident last Thursday afternoon, later died in the operating room of Geisinger Hospital-Danville as the result of blunt force head injuries with the manner of death listed as homicide.

Coroner Scott Lynn said Alysia Paullette Nolan died at 4:40 p.m. She is the daughter of Heather Nolan and Kirby Buckingham.

She had been a passenger in a 2008 Cobalt driven by Catharine Malave, 19, of Cheney, Wash., that had been travelling north on Rt. 307 about a mile west of Lake Winola when the vehicle apparently swerved, causing the car to land on its side around 12:55 p.m.

Wyoming County District Attorney Jeff Mitchell said Monday afternoon that Tunkhannock Township police are completing an investigation, and no charges have yet been filed.

Tunkhannock TownshipPolice Chief Edward Morristell said that it wasn’t clear what caused the vehicle crash, and the state police were sending out an accident reconstruction team to help the township with its investigation.

Chief Morristell said that Malave was taken to a local hospital and later released. He also noted the road was closed for several hours, and he appreciated the assist from Lake Winola fire and ambulance, the state police and Commonwealth Health.
