In December, the Monro Muffler Brake in Tunkhannock became The Tire Choice as a result of company reimaging in more than 200 stores.

The Monro Muffler Brake in Tunkhannock has undergone changes as part of Monro Inc.’s reimaging of more than 200 stores.

On Dec. 10, the local Monro Muffler Brake location was officially transformed into The Tire Choice, another one of Monro Inc.’s 10 brands. Seventeen stores in the Scranton area underwent this change.

“The reimaging investment of $75 million represents Monro’s commitment to providing guests with a better in-store and industry-leading auto repair experience,” said Monro Inc. Regional Vice President Daniel Tripoli.

With this reimaging, the company hopes to emphasize its status as one of the nation’s largest tire retailers, which Tripoli said Monro Muffler Brake did not convey as much.

Additionally, Monro Inc. Chief Executive Officer Brett Ponton, who has been with the company since 2017, has established a new focus going forward of “upgrading the principles of operational excellence and sustainable growth,” Tripoli said.

At Tire Choice stores, customers could find all major tire brands, including Michelin, Goodyear and Yokohama, just to name a few.

The store also specializes in various automotive maintenance and repair needs, such as oil changes, brake services, muffler and exhaust services, tune-ups, state inspections and more.

“Every guest that visits any of our locations receives a courtesy inspection followed by scheduled maintenance,” he said.

Since the first phase of changes have been completed with Monro Inc.’s some 200 stores, Tripoli said he believes the company has been meeting the goals behind the reimaging.

“I think we continue to improve on the process daily and we’re growing into our new footprint on a regular basis,” he said. “The teams within the stores are excited to work for a new modern looking, tech savvy company.”

The refreshed stores should provide better experiences for both employees and customers, he added.

Monro Inc. spans 32 states and operates 1,290 stores with a headquarters in Rochester, N.Y.

Monro Inc. primarily serves the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, with stores in portions of the Great Lakes, Midwest, Southeast, Louisiana and California.

The company has plans to reimage 300 other stores this year.
