JESSE TEEL

TUNKHANNOCK- A 24-year-old Springville man who took police on a 13.7-mile high speed chase last August faces up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty Friday in the Wyoming County Court of Common Pleas.

Jesse William Teel appeared before Judge Russell Shurtleff who said Teel also faced a maximum of $15,000 in fines.

According to court records, Tunkhannock Twp. Patrolman Patrick Butkiewicz spotted Teel’s vehicle without an inspection sticker on Aug. 10 at the intersection of Rt. 92 and the Rt. 6 bypass.

He turned his patrol vehicle around and activated his emergency lights, but Teel didn’t pull over.

Instead, the patrolman followed the 2004 Envoy Teel was driving up Sunnyside Road at speeds of up to 70 mph then up Billings Mill Road, Stark Road, Avery Station Road, and then Rt. 29, where Teel passed two vehicles allegedly in the face of double yellow lines and driving at a speed above 100 miles per hour, at which point Officer Butkiewicz abandoned the pursuit.

The vehicle was found Aug. 20 at Teel’s father’s residence, and the driver subsequently faced 16 different charges in connection with the incident.

Under a plea arrangement with the district attorney’s office and Teel, only the felony fleeing or attempting to elude police charge is being prosecuted.

Judge Shurtleff said he would be sentenced at a later date.
